Jean Claude Nsabimana is a graduate of Stellenbosch Academy of Design and Photography with BA Honours in Visual Communication majoring in photography and previously a graduate of Cape Peninsula University of Technology, with Baccalaureus Technologiae – Photography, and just completed his Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degree at Michalis School of Fine Art (UCT). Nsabimana has lectured in photography at the University of Cape Town and is currently lecturing at Ruth Prowse School of Art.
Nsabimana is a visual artist and storyteller who expresses interest in photography, film and video production, and design. As a visual artist, he believes one should be the voice for the voiceless, and so Nsabimana also understands himself as an activist, using his works as a tool to inspire political and social engagement. As a refugee and a person who comes from a disadvantaged background, he imagines a bright future; a future for himself and many like him. Nsabimana’s future means creating works that create awareness, transfer, and sharing of knowledge and skills.
